A small menu, made well. The lineup shifts with the season and what the dough wants to do — these are the bakes you can usually find on the counter.

Bread

Baked daily. First come, first served.

  • Stout sourdough

    Long ferment, malty crumb, dark crust.

  • Treacle rye

    Dense, slow, faintly sweet. Cuts thin.

  • Oven bottom muffin

    Traditional northern muffin, soft middle, floured top.

  • Country loaf

    A daily white sourdough. Open crumb, crisp shell.

Pastries

Mostly butter.

  • Custard tart Signature

    Our shot-glass pastry case filled with just-set egg custard. The one to queue for.

  • Manchester custard tart

    Raspberry jam, coconut, custard. A childhood memory.

  • Eccles cake

    Currants, butter pastry, sugar crackle.

  • Cornflake tart

    Jam, golden syrup, cornflakes. Exactly as you remember.

  • Bakewell slice

    Frangipane, raspberry, flaked almonds.

  • Butter shortbread

    Three ingredients. A lot of butter.

    Cream cheese frosting, toasted walnuts.

  • Banana sponge

    Ripe banana, brown butter.

    Caramelised, glistening, a slice of the seventies.
